The Chicken Festival

Catch our performance troupe on the MAIN STAGE 2:00 PM- 2:30 PM!

Join the Fair Oaks Recreation and Park District for the 13th annual Fair Oaks Chicken Festival. General admission and parking is free! Festivities include: Live music on main stage, pancake breakfast, craft brew tasting, 100+ vendors, SactoMoFo food court, kid's park, kid's entertainment, cluck n' crow contest and so much more.

The Fair Oaks Chicken Festival is a celebration of our rural history and present village atmosphere. The Village of Fair Oaks, colonized around 1895, was home to orange and citrus groves as well as olive orchards and assorted farm animals and, without a doubt, chickens were among them.

Today the Fair Oaks chickens enjoy the freedom and hospitality of the village they call home. They, along with their human counterparts, attend the Thursday night summer Concerts in the Park series and can be found crowing their appreciation for a good performance at Comedy Under the Stars. They gather in front of the local pub and other village businesses and even drop in for a bite with diners on the patio of one of Sacramento County’s better known restaurants. They have been the subject of television and radio stories as well as local newspaper and magazine articles. In short, they are a part of our history and lore and love ‘em or curse ‘em they are a very real part of everyday life in the village they call home.

************************************************************

On July 15, Sunday Streets returns to the sunny Mission district for a second round of car-free streets- from Duboce Ave to 26th St, Valencia Street transforms into to an open community space for all to enjoy.

In a neighborhood with a high concentration of children and families, Sunday Streets provides much-needed open space for kids to run, bike and play. Roll, walk or pedal to institutions like The Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts and Poder, or longtime businesses like taqueria Puerto Alegre and Dog Eared Books.

Despite changing demographics, the densely-populated Mission remains home to a large Latino population and a high number of small immigrant-owned businesses. Multiple bus lines and two BART stations make the Mission a transit hub, and popular restaurants and clubs draw patrons from across the Bay Area.

Sunday Streets two annual events in the Mission celebrate the area’s rich history and local offerings, giving both residents and visitors a chance to experience the area’s murals, art and diverse mix of businesses in an accessible, community-driven setting.

Whole Earth Festival - Davis

Whole Earth Festival began in 1969 as a small art class project (“Art Happening”) on the UC Davis Quad. The students used art to teach visitors about the realms of activism, wellness, and environmental sustainability in an interactive and creative way. Following the United Nations’ recognition of Earth Day in 1970, the event was renamed to “Whole Earth Festival” and has since evolved into an enormous, free, student-run event, attracting over 30,000 visitors annually on Mother’s Day weekend.

We will be on at the DANCE STAGE at WELLMAN HALL LAWN!

Performance: 11:00 AM - 11:20 AM

Sunday Streets car-free route stretches down The Bayview’s main corridor of Third Street, where commuters catch the T, the city’s first new light rail line in more than half a century. Make the day yours with fun, free exhibits and activities.

Home to the largest Black community in San Francisco, the area features family-owned coffee houses, legacy businesses, art studios, and community gardens, plus the sunniest weather in the city.

The Bayview and Dogpatch neighborhoods are connected by over 100 years of shared history – based on the heavy industry that formed the backbone of San Francisco’s infrastructure. Dogpatch has experienced a transformation in the last decade, its industrial landscape shifting to embrace designers, restaurants, craftspeople, and more.

Sunday Streets works with community groups and local partners to create fun, friendly spaces for locals and to activate street corners and storefronts to engage visitors, showcasing spots like soul food restaurant Auntie April’s, arts center Bayview Opera House, and neighborhood favorite Sam Jordan’s Bar and Grill.
